EXHIBIT by DYE FUSION

FROM PRESS TO FABRIC
An exhibit by DyeFusion

DyeFusion is a group of seven women who enjoy playing with dyes and paints and creating one of a kind altered fabrics.  Their challenge for this display was to make prints on fabric.  Each of these quilts began as a monoprint created using a large etching press.  Since prints are usually created on paper, they experimented to find techniques for printing on this new surface.  They used oil printing inks with a large sheet of plexiglass, to create the original plate from which they printed.  They also created smaller companion prints on paper.

The exhibit will hang at the Esther Bone Library during July and August.

Linen, oil paintsticks, armature, fabric paint. Hand painted, stenciled, machine quilted, hand stitched.

Artist’s Statement: I majored in ceramics and spent almost 20 years operating my own business. I am revisiting the classical pottery forms of the past, this time in fiber, using the medium to push the traditional shapes in new directions. The title refers to the traditional Chinese ginger jar shape that inspired this work.

Our last meeting In May
Wow! It was interesting getting to Jennifer's in Santa Fe. It started to snow (blizzard like) about 10 minutes south of Santa Fe. I almost turned around, but then thought. "It's MAY. How can this continue?" By the time the meeting started it was clearing and there were even spots of sun on the the way home. We had 18 members and two guests despite the weather.
Thank you Jennifer for hosting the meeting despite your busy schedule (class the day before and leaving for Mexico the day after) You are wonderwoman!
Our Next Meeting
Our next meeting will be July 18th in Silver City in conjunction with the Silver City Fiber Arts Fiesta. There will be more details in the next news letter. I hope you are planning to come. We had a wonderful little get away last year. Silver City is beautiful. Here is a link to find out more about the festival and hotel information. http://www.fiberartscollective.org/festival.html

Please let me know ASAP if you plan to attend so we can plan our mini workshops for Saturday morning and the dinner for Friday evening. So far we plan to have mini-workshops on "Writing an Artist Statement". "Taking Photos 101 of Your Quilts" and "Using Photo Shop to Resize Images". If you would like to help with any of these workshops please let me know. They will be 20 minute workshops/discussions with handouts.
Look for more details to follow in the next email.

Seeds for SAQA/How Does Your Garden Grow will premiere at the Silver City Fiber Arts Festival July 17 & 18, and then travel to the Hubbard Museum in Ruidoso April '16.
Entries are due by July 1.
Message from Betty,
The entries for our seed packet show have been rolling in and they are looking great! Please don't wait until the last minute to send them in (which is July 1)- I have to order special printouts and mount each one on a custom board.
I've assembled a few below so you can see how they look- the whole display should be outstanding!
They will premiere at the Silver City Fiber Arts Festival in July, then travel on to Pennsylvania National in September, then the Hubbard Museum next April.
There have been multiple entries for butterfly bush and clematis so far, so please try to think of something else if you haven't started yet.
Also, I've been looking into getting cards printed of these that we could sell as a fundraiser so try to get quality photos of your work.

The inspiration for the Seeds show came from the Hudson Valley Seed Company, which has been using artwork to illustrate their seed packets.  http://www.seedlibrary.org/art-packs.html
They have a call for entry every spring- maybe your fiber art can be on one of their products!

Future Call For Entries
Save some time to enter something for our NEXT call, which will go out later in June and be due by OCTOBER-
It's called Natural Healing, and will feature any plants that are used in medicine.
The size will be 20" wide by 30" high, and will premiere in Albuquerque at the Unitarian Church in October, then move onto additional venues.
It is a SAQA showcase, and won't be juried.
