HUBBARD MUSEUM EXHIBIT

NEWSLETTER FROM MICHELLE

Cultural Red Opening at the Hubbard Museum of the American West

Please join us for the opening reception on April 30th, 2-4 PM. This is a spectacular show including all those wonderful pieces that could not be hung at the Capitol Rotunda. This exhibit also features Seeds For SAQA and Natural Healing. Hubbard Museum of the American West, 26301 Hwy 70, Ruidoso Downs, NM 575-378-4142. I have postcards for those of you in Albuquerque and Ann Anastasio has them for those of you in Santa Fe.

Dinner following the opening in Ruidoso

Please join us for dinner following the opening at Casa Blanca. Thank you Vicki for setting this up.
Here is a 2 page limited menu (page one, Page 2) with everything less than $15.  The new manager was very nice and is including coffee, tea or soda with the meal.  Alcohol can be ordered from the server and each person should keep track and add it to what they owe.  Everyone can look at this menu ahead of time and get some idea of what theirs will cost.  They do not add the tip to the bill as many other restaurants do for large parties, so everyone should add 25 - 28% for tax and tip and bring the appropriate amount of cash for Michelle  to collect to pay one bill.  The room holds 30 people max and if we have more including some husbands then we can ask the men to sit out in the restaurant.. She said there was a $200 room rent charge and I said the old manager said nothing about it and we didn't pay it  the last time we had our dinner here. So she said OK no charge.
We would like a total count of everyone coming, not only for the room but also so the manager can have enough servers and kitchen staff on hand.  Please email Michelle how many in your group are attending.  The reservation is for 5:30 PM.

SAQA Auction Pieces

Just a reminder that Gale is no longer the coordinator for the SAQA auction pieces, so you will need to ship your piece instead of delivering it. If you have your piece done by the May meeting and have already done your part of entering it on line through the SAQA site we will collect them at that meeting and send them in together.

Exhibit Name:                 Under the Western Sun

Premier Location:            Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum

Dates:                             April 27 to July 25, 2017

Exhibit Theme:

Where an artist lives impacts the voice with which they speak.  Here in the West we experience extremes of climate and altitude; intense color and light, unusual landscapes and plants; unique people and cultures.  These all influence the work we do Under the Western Sun.

Juror:                              Patty Kennedy-Zafred

Patricia Kennedy-Zafred has been telling stories through the medium of textiles and art quilts for over 20 years.  Her prize winning work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and has been published in books and magazines throughout her career.

Patricia Kennedy-Zafred's art, influenced by her educational background in journalism and photography, is primarily image driven, with the intent to tell a story, trigger a memory, or elicit an emotion.  Each piece is seen through the lens of the viewer, whose personal experiences contribute to the interpretation of the work.  Her current work has been focused on historical imagery, which she  silk screens onto hand dyed fabric, and enhances with additional image transfer, layering and stitch.

Kennedy-Zafred's work has been accepted in such major juried exhibitions as Quilt National, Visions, Artist as Quiltmaker, Fantastic Fibers and Quilts=Art=Quilts, and has won top prizes at both International Quilt Festival and American Quilt Society competitions.  Her work has also been included in numerous curated and invitational exhibitions of fiberart and fine craft.
