PAT GOULD REPORTS ON LAST MONTH'S SILVER CITY FIBER ARTS FIESTA AND SAQA MEETING!

Silver City Fiber Art Festival and SAQA meeting - Friday, November 11, 2011

Betty, Holly, and I got to the Fiber Fiesta in Silver City in the
mid-afternoon on Friday. The festival was great - plenty of good vendors
and the southern members had a show of their work. Lynn
Welsch did a great job organizing the festival and the hope is to have it
be a biennial.

After the festival, we had a SAQA meeting at the Lois Duffy Art Gallery,
thanks to Susan Szajer who exhibits there. At the meeting (and subsequent
dinner) were: Susan, Donna Sebastian, Chris Ramsey (guest), Lynn Welsch,
Jean Cowie, Holly Altman, Betty Busby, and Pat Gould. (photos of gallery
and Susan's work).

Susan had crackers and cheese for us and a nice table set up to meet.
Betty talked about the upcoming shows, especially the one at the Open
Space and showed the group her "sample" fox quilt. We also talked about
the show at the Capitol in 2013 and that it will be up during
> the SAQA conference which is scheduled for the last weekend in April
2013. Susan then gave us a talk about her stunning work and how she
arrived at where she is both in terms of moving to Silver City and  her
life journey as an artist.

We then had dinner at Shavek, a popular local restaurant a few blocks from the gallery

A good time was had by all (photo of the group taken by
Jean).
